Down with RV Valences!

It's true, our valences weren't the worst out there, but they are definitely not our taste and something I couldn't wait to get rid of. The cats scratching them to shreds didn't help their prospects either.

When I went to open one of our last working blinds and found it too had broken, I ordered the fabric for our curtains. After a lot of measuring, cutting, sewing, and second guessing, we were ready to remove the valences. But more on curtains later!

Like most things in RVs, valences do vary quite a bit from model to model. They aren't difficult to remove, but you may need to tweak these instructions if you have a different type of window covering.

Now for the good news! The only thing you need is a screwdriver! Just a normal old Philips head will do.

Let's get started!

Step by Step How to Remove RV Valences for Your RV Remodel

First, remove the blinds.

Just inside the base of the valence, you'll see a thimble looking thing with a screw in the middle. Remove the screw in the middle. Do this on the other side of the valence as well.

This releases the base of the blinds - they might pop up a little and then become slack.

Next, you'll move up to the top inside of the valence and find where the blinds are connected. There should by two screws holding them in place.

Remove those screws, and the blinds will drop out.

Already letting more light in!

Now you are ready to remove the valence itself.

Start from the bottom, as you did with the blinds. There are two screws inside the base of the valence.

Sometimes these can be difficult to find. This one was partially covered by the fabric, so I had to rip a little to uncover the screw.

Remove both screws - one on each side of the base of the valence.

Moving up to the top of the valence, you'll see three screws holding it up. Or, it may be attached by brackets depending on where the valence is.

These screws are a bit more difficult to remove, so if you have a drill it would help. I managed without digging our drill out.

Remove all three screws, and your valence should fall right off!

Voila! You have removed a valence!

Now you probably have 8 or so more to go...As time consuming as it is, it's definitely worth the work!

Next week, we'll be sharing how to make curtains and hang them without any screws or nails.
